Work Environment at a Glance
Ukiah Valley Medical Center Emergency Department:
- 78 bed hospital; 13 bed Emergency Department (ED)
- New, 20+ bed ED with new, adjacent Intensive Care Unit–anticipated opening in 2013
- 25,000+ patient visits per year to ED
- 2 hours north of San Francisco
- Hospitalist available 24/7 for unassigned-patient admissions and ED consultations
- Clinically strong physician assistants and nurse practitioners
- Strong and supportive nursing staff
- Good relationships with medical staff
- Customer-service oriented Radiology Department
- 64-slice helical CT and ULS 24/7
- MRI M-F: Off-hours emergency use in conjunction w/ Attending Radiologist
- ED MDs can write Holding/Temporary Admit Orders to facilitate flow
- Goal directed ultrasound for emergency and hospitalist physicians
- Frequent procedural sedation including Ketamine, Propofol by ED MDs
- Frequent orthopedic procedures by ED MDs
