Jeff Rapp, M.D.Dr. Rapp first became interested in the sciences when he attended Stuyvesant High School in New York City. He obtained his undergraduate degree in biology from Alfred University in upstate New York, then completely switched climates and obtained his MD degree from Tulane University in New Orleans. His love affair with California began with his internship in San Francisco in the turbulent late 60's (actually 1970). After a lengthy European and North African adventure (to recuperate from school), he worked as an Emergency Physician at St. Luke's Hospital in San Francisco. He was offered the opportunity to transform the ER there to one of the first modern ER's in the area, becoming the Medical Director and Chairman of the corporation of emergency physicians. In 1982, Dr. Rapp became one of the first board certified emergency physicians in California. In 1986, after 13 years at St. Luke's, Dr. Rapp and his wife Phyllis (an RN and artist) sold their Sausalito home, bought a sailboat, and sailed the Caribbean for three years. They returned pregnant (with son Lyle) and, attracted by the beauty and tranquility, moved to Mendocino County to begin his 18 year career at Ukiah Valley Medical Center, working primarily in the ER, but also in Job Care. The lure of the sea struck again in 2007. Dr. Rapp and Phyllis sold their Healdsburg home, bought another sailboat, and enjoyed another 3 years, mostly in the less traveled Western Caribbean. Upon his return, he has been working again in the ER and Job Care. In addition to his obvious love for sailing and traveling, Dr. Rapp enjoys skiing, scuba, free and abalone diving, bicycling and reading (in his old age, he has recently joined a book club).
