Our Team

Mark Luoto, MD, FACEP

After 27 years of full-time emergency medicine practice, I still enjoy going to work in our department. Usually, I feel like I am spending time with my friends. Our group also operates the only occupational medicine program in Mendocino County, and I have been involved with it since its inception over 20 years ago. I have enjoyed working with the development of our EMS system in the region since the early '80's, serving as both base and county EMS medical director.

Most importantly, I have been a longstanding member of the Surfing Medical Association. I am an unofficial member of the association's crack research team, and spend countless days each year investigating surf-realated maladies on our coast.

I have been married to Valerie for 25 years. She is a Rosen Method body work practioner, and has an active practice in the region as well as a busy, international teaching schedule. We have 4 children; Yedda, Ira, Jamin, and Sophie ( Sophie graduates from Ukiah High this June, and heads off to UCLA -- sorry Cal Bears ..... go Bruins ! ) And, we have the full catastrophe at home: 2 dogs, 3 cats, 2 horses, and property that gets more unruly each year as Val travels abroad and I spend more time at the beach.

Val and I were both born in Northern California, and we feel fortunate that we have been able to remain here, raising our children, enjoying our lives.
