RN, MSN, FNP
Lill Basner is a Nurse Practitioner who has been with PRMG since 1992. Her medical career includes an extensive background in internal medicine, including diabetic education, as well as multiple family practice settings. She has been a site visitor for the Stanford University PA program, and continues to actively precept both PA and NP students in the ER setting. Lill was instrumental in establishing a joint NP/PA professional group in Mendocino County, and served as chairperson for many years. This group is still active today, and is the main local professional resource for mid-level practitioners in the county. She is a long-standing member of the California Association of Nurse Practitioners, the state professional organization. She has been a volunteer with the American Cancer Society, and was a "trainer of trainers" in cancer screening, participating and guest lecturing in many workshops locally and in the bay area.
Lill first became interested in medicine as a teenager, when she began working in both a busy multi-specialty medical office and a large regional hospital. It was at this time, in the 1970's, when she was first introduced to the role of a Nurse Practitioner. From the beginning, she knew this was the career path she wanted and began toward it by receiving her nursing degree in 1979. She has held various nursing positions, including assistant manager of an orthopedic surgery unit at Sutter Sacramento, primary care nurse in a private internal medicine setting, staff educator, and director of nursing. She also opened, in conjunction with three orthopedic surgeons, and managed a 12 bed orthopedic step-down unit to transition patients from the acute care setting to the home. Her main interest, however, was becoming a medical provider, and in 1984, she began pursuing her NP degree.
Lill was born and raised in New Jersey, moving to California in 1979. She, and her husband, David have been married for 27 years and have lived in Ukiah since 1983. They have 2 sons; Logan, age 17, who is about to graduate high school and begin college at Cal Poly; and Adam, age 13, who will enter his final year of junior high in the fall.
Lill's main interests and activities revolve around her sons. She has been an active parent volunteer for 13 years in the K thru 8 school that both sons attend(ed). She currently serves on the School Advisory Council, a position she has held for the past 6 years (four of these as president), and has also served on countless special events boards and committees. She is also currently very active in volunteering as a team parent for the Varsity baseball program at the high school.
In addition to spending time with her family (including their golden retriever), Lill enjoys cooking, gardening, home design/renovation, and spending time on a beach (especially Poipu in Kauai). One of her other main interests is planning events, both large and small, which she actively does for PRMG, the schools and other social programs. Who knows, maybe this will be a second career down the road…
